Teaching Your Child at Home

Each child has a unique way of learning. The three learning modalities are the sensory channels we use to obtain and process information. Visual learners process information best with pictures and diagrams; these children learn best seeing things. Auditory learners learn best by listening and discussing things. Kinesthetic learners learn best with a hands on approach. Most children learn through all three learning modalities.

Temperament theory states that all people differ in their interests, attitudes, judgments, and perceptions. This greatly affects how we want to learn, what we want to learn, and the way we learn. When a parent learns what their child temperament style is, they can plan out how to effectively teach their child.

There are four temperament styles: where the attention is focused, how information is acquired, how decisions are made, and work habits and lifestyle.

The child is either extroverted or introverted, which means either focusing on outside objects, people events or inner world of ideas. The child is either sensing, which means the child acquires information from the senses (concrete and present) or intuition, which focuses on insight, inspiration, future, and possibility. The child either makes decisions based on logical analysis and cause and effect (thinking) or on personal values and the affect on the self (feeling). Lastly, the child prefers their life to be orderly and structured (judging) or spontaneous and flexible (perceiving).

Howard Gardner, originator of multiple intelligences, defines seven kinds of intelligence. Most children have strengths in two or three of them and need work on the rest. One kind of intelligence is verbal/linguistic, which is speaking and reading. Another type of intelligence is logical/mathematical, which is concepts and abstract patterns. Another kind of intelligence is visual/special which is thinking in images, pictures, shapes, and colors. Another kind of intelligence is musical, such as rhythm, pitch, melody and harmony. Another type of intelligence is bodily/kinesthetic, which is touch, making, and doing. And yet another type of intelligence is interpersonal, which is relating and cooperating with people. Last but not least is intrapersonal, which is independence and self-motivation.

Learning how your child perceives the world around him/her and learns will allow you to maximize their intellectual strengths and teach them effectively.

3 Strategies for Successful Selling on your Website

1) The first successful selling strategy is a website that provides information about the products and the service they are providing. The advantage of that is we can sell those products and services online.

Selling is a talent to be cultivated. It requires a lot of understanding to find what the customer is looking for and then fulfilling his needs.

It is very important to get the complete attention of reader. The content of the message should be make reader think.

This can be achieved by using power words, along with color and visuals. Once the attention is grabbed, it should be retained till the end of the message. The customer should be prompted to take some action and their involvement should be sought. They can be made to sign up for newsletters or can be made to take the survey by visiting the company’s website.

2)The consumer should be convinced to buy the product. All the features of the company should be specified, with the more relevant ones on the top. They should be explained logically through these points how the products will fulfill their needs or solve their problems. It does only by convincing the customer about this will motivate them to buy the product.

They should be made to understand what wonders the product can do to him. Strong emotional words should be included in the sentence. The customer should either fear the loss of the product if he doesn’t buy it in time or he should be given the greed of the advantages the product can provide.

These reasons will create an emotional impulse and will make them think that they have no other option to buy it. They will have a logical reason to make the purchase. The emotions of the buyer should be manipulated with words.

Something like limited edition or limited period offer will create a sense of urgency. The customer thinks that he should get this product somehow. It’s nice to have sales often, especially to clear out old inventory in the name of some offer. The products which have an obvious damage should be sold out at a special price. But the damage should be mentioned to the customer. If it’s not mentioned, the first time the customer will be tricked into buying something, but he will loose trust and won’t come back again.

Always hold seasonal sales and offers. Since all the competitors will be giving out different offers to attract customers, it’s a good point to have one, too. But it should be remembered to not to imitate anyone. Only a unique offer will make the customers not go to the competitors’. Once in a while offer free shipping offer also works. A condition like if a customer spends particular amount of money, all items will be shipped for free. This is another attractive deal which will surely tempt the customer.

Thanks to search engines and online stores anything can be purchased from the comfort of the home. Give away free sample to the customers or keep a pre-sale price for introductory products. The customers won’t think twice to spend a little money to try something new.

3) The ending of the sales message is where most people mess it up. The whole efforts will be wasted if the customer gets a second thought. He should be convinced, by nice words, to buy the product till the very end. The content should be arranged with care. The key is to tell the customer what to do exactly after he finishes reading the matter, like ‘Grab the golden opportunity now’ or ‘pick up the phone and dial the number right now’, etc.

Do not include links or short advertisement of other products or services. This will shift the focus of the reader and he might have a second thought. A list of the existing customers should be maintained and from time to time special offers should be mailed to them. So basically the whole idea is to influence the mind of the customer until he buys a product.

Methods of Homeschooling

You are wrong when you think of homeschooling as an entirely unstructured way of educating a child. The common notion is that parents will teach whatever they know without a pattern whatsoever. But that is not really how it is done.

In homeschooling, the teacher will gauge the ability of the child and teach from there. There are a lot of methods and these may be approved in your state. Children taught at home also have subjects, performance evaluation, field trips and others much like the other children who are sitting in a classroom.

Here are some teaching methods you can use when you are homeschooling:

All-in-one. This is a curriculum that is recommended for those who live in rural areas where access to a library is hard. This is a package that has everything you will need (mostly for a year) such as books and even pencils. Using this style is like having a classroom at home but your children are the only students. Obviously, this is good if you are starting with homeschooling.

Student-paced. Maybe the reason you want your child to be homeschooled is because you want to ensure that he really is learning and is being assisted in achieving his own potential. This student paced is much like an all-in-one curricula but the lessons are taught depending on the child’s pace.

Unit studies. This method means that all the subjects your child will have in your homeschooling will be related on one topic. This is good if your child is a “multi-grader” because lessons can be easily adjusted from simple to comprehensive. That means that if your child may be grade 3 in math, grade 2 in science and grade 5 in English, centralizing the lessons in a topic helps him relate the information taught to him.

Online education. This is a method where in the Internet is very much involved. It means enrolling your child to an online school for tutoring, playing educational games in the internet, taking examinations and others. This is a nice alternative for children who have limitations to travel to a school.

Unschooling. This is a homeschooling method of teaching where the interests of the child are the guide in learning. Children who are “unschooled” explore the world with the parent as a teacher assisting him on his side. This is not leaving the children to learn on their own but instead allowing your child to dictate what he wants to learn thereby ensuring his cooperation.

There are many more methods of teaching that can be used in homeschooling but those will be mentioned at another time. You only have to remember is that it is okay to go from one method to another or use them in combination. Observe your child what is best suited for him for you to be able to use the appropriate method.

Homeschooling Advantages

Homeschooling or the act of teaching children in the home with the parents or tutor acting as teachers is an alternative form of education that is starting to appeal in developed countries. It also refers to enrolling children to a correspondence school so that they will be studying more at home.

The education quality of traditional schools is deteriorating. A number of parents choose homeschooling as they want their children to reach their full potential. The parents may not be the teachers in this case but at least they have the say in hiring the teacher they think is best qualified to input data in their child’s mind.

A great percentage of reasons for homeschooling refer to keeping the religious or moral values of the family. Morality and religion are sensitive issues in this world at this time. There are a lot of things considered as “normal” by most that may not be consistent with the values of a child’s family. If this is the primary reason of parents to start homeschooling, then they only want to protect their children from the worldly pressures that may shatter their kids’ faith and values. Eventually, home-schooled children will learn of these problems but by that time, they are more mature to handle them.

An unbelievable but really logical advantage of homeschooling is socialization. But wouldn’t that be contradicting because children taught at home are limited to interact with their family members during classes? That is a misunderstanding actually. Homeschooling may mean that children will be learning at home but they actually have more time to interact to different groups in the society in general. They could visit a factory, or volunteer in elderly homes or actively learn in a machine shop. That means they get to socialize more with a variety of people. If the problem is having friends, well, the children have weekends to play with their friends in their block. What about school meets, prom and graduation? Home-schooled children can participate in athletic meetings and that parents can hold a graduation for their children. The prom thing is something to think about but that can be replaced with dance classes.

Another advantage of homeschooling is the fact that lessons can be tailored according to the individual abilities of the children. It is as flexible as your child may be doing grade 6 math and grade 5 English and grade 4 music. Your child learns at his own pace and he can help choose the lessons he will take.

But after all of these and many more advantages, tight family bonding tops the list of positive effects of homeschooling. Having a healthy family contributes to a more peaceful community and it decreases the rate of broken families which is the underlying cause of many problems.
